Benefits Of Retirement And Volunteering Essay - 1549 Words

Retirement may pose many questions that need to be answered. Throughout research, a question that I sought out to answer was if retirement and volunteering had a significant connection with each other; and if so, what people are the most willing to become active volunteers? This question formulated in my mind based on an interview that I had with my grandma, Elaine Wagner. She retired in 2007 from being a dietetics supervisor at a nursing home in a rural community for twenty-five years. In this interview, she explained to me that retirement was a big adjustment for her and keeping active through volunteering was what helped her get through it. From that statement, I began to wonder if there had been any scientific studies that showed a clear correlation between retirement and volunteering. Investigation Throughout the search to the answer to this particular question, it was easy to see that there are many personal factors that relate to an individual’s willingness to retire. Conscientiousness and Volunteering I found that there is a connection between how volunteering can affect the retirement process.
